Ilaria Alpi

Giornalista italiana uccisa in Somalia in circostanze non ancora chiare, Ilaria Alpi inizia come corrispondente da Il Cairo per i quotidiani Paese Sera e L’Unità. Negli anni Novanta viene inviata a Mogadiscio dal TG3 per seguire e documentare l’andamento della guerra civile somala. Nel marzo 1994, inviata in Somalia per la settima volta, Ilaria stava indagando sul traffico d’armi e rifiuti tossici illegali, quando viene uccisa da un
commando insieme all’operatore Miran Hrovatin. Esecutori e mandanti restano ancora impuniti. Per tenere viva la memoria sul caso Ilaria Alpi é nato il sito ilariaalpi.it; Emergency le ha intitolato il centro chirurgico di Battambang (Cambogia) e dal 1995 ogni anno a Riccione si assegna il Premio Ilaria Alpi alle migliori inchieste televisive italiane e internazionali.

Ilaria Alpi was an Italian journalist who was killed in Somalia in circumstances which are still not clear. Ms Alpi began her career as a correspondent in Cairo for the Italian newspapers Paese Sera and L’Unità. In the 90s Alpi was sent to Mogadishu by the Rai news channel TG3 to report on the Somali civil war. In May 1994, Ilaria Alpi went back to Somalia for the seventh timefor an enquiry on the arms trade and on illegal toxic waste disposal, when she was shot by a local commando. The journalist was working with her cameraman Miran Hrovatin who was also killed. Executors and instigators have been left unpunished to date. The website www.ilariaalpi.it was created to raise awareness on the issue of Ilaria Alpi’s death. Emergency has set up a surgery clinic at Battambang (Cambodia) which bears her name.
