Ellen Johnson Sirleaf
Ellen Sirleaf è attualmente il Primo Ministro della Liberia. È la prima donna nera nel mondo presidente di uno stato e anche la prima donna eletta come capo di stato in Africa. Spesso chiamata con l’appellativo di “Signora di Ferro”, per la sua coerenza, integrità morale ed onestà intellettuale, la Sirleaf è riuscita a realizzare in pochissimi anni un’identità autorevole, anticonformista e sfaccettata di politica, economista ed imprenditrice liberiana. Nel 2011 ha vinto il Premio Nobel per la Pace per i suoi meriti di lotta non-violenta a favore dell’affermazione dei diritti delle donne. Nel 1988 aveva ricevuto il Premio Franklin Delano Roosvelt per la Libertà di Parola e nel 2006 il Premio della leadership per l’Africa per la Fine Sostenibile della Fame. È inoltre membro fondatore dell’Istituto Internazionale per le Donne nella Leadership Politica.
Ellen Sirleaf is currently the President of Liberia. She happens to be the first elected, black, female head of State not only in Africa, but in the world. Often referred to as the “Iron Lady”, for her sense of coherence, her moral integrity as well as her intellectual honesty, Ellen Sirleaf has succeeding in building up an authoritative identity that is a Liberian she-entrepreneur and economist, the anti-conformist, multifaceted and prismatic style. In 2011, she was awarded was the Nobel Peace Prize “for her non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work.” She had become the recipient of the 1988 Franklin Delano Roosvelt Freedom of Speech Award and in 2006 she was the laureate of the Africa Prize for Leadership for the Sustainable End of Hunger. She is also a founding member of the Council of Women World Leaders.
