Caddy Adzuba Furaha
Caddy Adzuba Furaha è una giovane giornalista che negli ultimi anni si è distinta nel campo dell’informazione dei diritti delle donne nel suo paese, la Repubblica Democratica del Congo, da tempo lacerato dalla guerra civile. Soprannominata “Voce delle voci”, il suo quotidiano lavoro presso Radio Okapi – radio africana sostenuta dalle Nazioni Unite che si mantiene libera e al servizio della pace – è riconosciuto e ammirato a livello internazionale. Dal 2004 Caddy Adzuba Furaha è Presidente dell’Alliance des jeunes femmes pour la promotion des valeurs humaines, associazione che si prefigge lo scopo di aiutare le donne vittime di violenze e che lotta contro la discriminazione di genere promuovendo inoltre l’incremento di posti di lavoro nell’ottica di un inserimento femminile nel governo congolese. Nonostante le continue minacce di morte e le numerose intimidazioni, Caddy prosegue il suo impegno giornalistico come strumento della lotta civile, unico mezzo a sua disposizione per la denuncia delle ingiustizie ai danni delle categorie sociali più deboli. Nel 2012 è stata eletta “Donna dell’anno”, in occasione della quindicesima edizione dell’omonimo premio internazionale promosso dal Consiglio regionale della Valle d’Aosta.
Caddy Adzuba Furaha is a young journalist in the midst of what appears to be an endless civil war in her nation, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and has been ceaselessly operating in the field information on Women’s Rights. Nicknamed the “Voice of the Voices”, she is praised worldwide for her daily news report at Radio Okapi, a UN-backed African radio station that remains independent, free and in favour of the promotion of peace. In 2004, Caddy chairs the “Alliance des jeunes femmes pour la promotion des valeurs humaines” Association: its main goal is to help the women, victims of all sorts of abuse and discrimination as well as to struggle for an increase of jobs for women with a view to having more ladies involved in the Congolese government positions. Notwithstanding the numerous death intimidations, Caddy keeps carrying out her commitment as a reporter, aware that this tool of hers is the sole one to allow her to keep going in her civil struggle. The only tool she has to fight for peace in a country ravaged by civil war and to decry those social injustices to the detriment
of the Weak and Needy. In 2012, at the fifteenth edition of the International “Woman of the Year” prize, she was awarded the prize of the same name from the hands of the President of the Council of Valle d’Aosta, Italy.
